Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Mount Union Area School District is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of this website and, in doing so, adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. This site aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice's Title II regulations for state and local government websites.

This site is a proposed redesign under review by the Board and district administration and is not yet the district's official, published website. We are treating WCAG 2.1 AA conformance as a launch requirement, not an afterthought, and are addressing known issues on an ongoing basis as part of that review.

Measures we have taken

Steps taken to support accessibility on this site include:

• A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page that becomes visible on keyboard focus, so keyboard users can bypass repeated navigation.
• Keyboard-operable navigation menus, including visible focus indicators and Escape-key support for closing open menus.
• Semantic tab, tab-panel, and live-region markup for interactive widgets such as sport statistics tabs and the district and cafeteria calendars, so screen readers announce state changes.
• Descriptive alternative text on informative images and decorative images marked so they are skipped by assistive technology.
• Color combinations checked against WCAG contrast requirements for text and interface components.
• A responsive layout that supports zoom and reflow at common screen sizes.

Known limitations

Despite our best efforts, some content on this site may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include:

• PDF documents. Some linked PDFs (budgets, board policies, and similar governed documents) originate from third parties or older scans and may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We are working to remediate or replace these over time.
• Third-party tools. Some linked services (PowerSchool, ParentSquare, ClassLink, Microsoft 365, board meeting/agenda platforms, and payment or vendor portals) are operated outside the district and maintain their own accessibility conformance, which we do not control.
• Legacy or archived content. Older documents and archived pages may predate our current accessibility practices.
