Welcome to the Trojan Family
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and Board of School Directors, welcome to Mount Union Area School District. Our small, close-knit district covers a lot of ground — more than 150 square miles across Huntingdon and Mifflin Counties — but our focus stays the same in every building: knowing every student by name and giving them what they need to succeed.
Thank you for being part of the Trojan family.

Superintendent's Philosophy & Goals for Public Education
"My philosophy of education is grounded in ensuring that every student receives the same level of skillful instruction, care, and opportunity that once changed my own life trajectory. Schools thrive when systems are strong, expectations are clear, and educators are supported to do their best work. My goal is to lead a district culture centered on literacy, rigorous instruction, and equitable access to pathways for all learners. I am committed to transparent leadership and continuous improvement that strengthens outcomes for every student." — Superintendent Jen Taylor
See her formal 2026–2027 performance goals, approved by the Board of School Directors, below.
2026–2027 Superintendent Performance Goals
These goals address four areas critical to the district's continued growth: strengthening what's taught in the classroom, keeping the district's finances and policies in good order, listening better to families and staff, and building a stronger administrative team. They were approved by the Board of School Directors at the July 20, 2026 meeting and will guide the Superintendent's 2026–2027 evaluation cycle.
Goal 1: Strengthen Teaching & Curriculum
In plain terms
Build a real system for reviewing and improving what's taught in every classroom — putting people in charge of curriculum, using test scores and classwork data to see where students need more support, and mapping out a two-year plan to rewrite and update our courses. She'll present that plan to the Board by June 2027.
How we'll know it's working
- The right people are in place leading curriculum work
- Student data is actually being used to guide decisions, not just collected
- A clear two-year plan to update coursework is presented to the Board
Goal 2: Manage Money & Policy Responsibly
In plain terms
Keep the district financially healthy while cleaning up how it's run. That means looking closely at staffing so positions make sense, chasing more grants and outside funding instead of relying only on local taxes, and reviewing district policies that haven't been touched since 2017 — many of which are likely outdated.
How we'll know it's working
- The district's budget stays balanced and sustainable
- Staffing decisions are backed by data, not guesswork
- More grant money is applied for and won
- Outdated policies get identified and a plan to fix them is approved by the Board
Goal 3: Listen & Communicate Better
In plain terms
Make it easier for families, staff, and the community to actually be heard. That means listening sessions at each school building, summer office hours where anyone can sit down with the Superintendent, and a district-wide Back-to-School Information Night. What she hears gets reported back to the Board by October 2026.
How we'll know it's working
- Every school building holds a listening session
- Summer office hours actually happen and people know about them
- A district-wide Back-to-School Night is held
- Feedback from families and staff visibly shapes district decisions
Goal 4: Strengthen School Leadership
In plain terms
Make sure every principal and administrator knows exactly what's expected of them, and invest in helping them grow as leaders. Also put in place one clear, fair, legally sound hiring process for the whole district — replacing a patchwork of different practices used building to building.
How we'll know it's working
- Administrators' roles and responsibilities are clearly written out
- Leadership training happens regularly, not just once a year
- One standardized hiring process is documented, legally reviewed, and adopted
- Building and department leaders are trained on the new hiring process
