The Mount Union Future Business Leaders of America will be holding a golf tournament on Saturday, April 18 at the American Legion Country Club beginning at 9:00 a.m. This event is dedicated to raising money for the trip to the FBLA's National Leadership Conference this Summer, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas from June 27 to July 2.

This will be the Second Annual Golf Tournament held by Mount Union FBLA. Last May, Mount Union FBLA sponsored their first golf tournament, raising close to $2,500 to help fund their Nationals trip to Anaheim, California. Out of 12,000 national competitors, two students from Mount Union moved on to the final round with one student placing fourth in the country in the Future Business Educator competitive event. These achievements at the national level showcase the talents and efforts of Mount Union FBLA students. The hope is this year's students will be able to match that level of success.

This year's golf tournament will include a lunch for all participants as well as a silent auction for anyone participating to enter. Participants can register as a team of four golfers with a total cost of $300 per team.

By registering for the tournament, participants will be helping to provide opportunities for FBLA members to compete against students from all over the country, as well as providing opportunities for students to network with business leaders and organization sponsors. Members work tirelessly to achieve this honor and for many FBLA members, this opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. National conferences also provide students with an opportunity to show schools from around the nation what Mount Union is capable of. Students attending the National Leadership Conference will also engage in workshops and listen to a variety of speakers from across the nation.

This event is primarily funded by sponsors of the tournament with all profits going towards travel costs for students who qualify to compete at the National Leadership Conference. This year's tournament includes four different levels of sponsorship: "FBLA Service Sponsor" which includes sponsorship name on all tournament and marketing materials, "FBLA Progress Sponsor" which includes one tournament flag and one cart sponsorship, "FBLA Education Sponsor" which includes a sign with sponsorship name at a catered meal and finally "FBLA Leadership Sponsor" includes one team sponsorship. All sponsorship levels also include all benefits from every level below them.

The Mount Union Area High School Future Business Leaders of America club is currently working on their chapter community service project. As part of that year-long project, Mount Union FBLA will be helping the Mount Union Area Food Pantry provide food for people in need in the Mount Union area. Many families across Huntingdon County rely on local food banks, and Mount Union FBLA wants to help as many families as they can.

Mount Union FBLA members gathered information from the Mount Union Area Food Pantry representatives. Officers discovered through looking at statistics provided by the food bank, there has been a steady increase in families in need of food assistance since December of 2024. Furthermore, with the uncertainty of state and federal budgets, food pantry personnel are expecting even more families in upcoming months.

In prior years, Mount Union FBLA would do a seasonal food drive once a year, but after Mount Union FBLA officers became aware of the dire need for food in the community and the dramatic increase in community members reaching out for food assistance, the chapter wanted to make an impact not only on FBLA but also on the community as well.

To help make this project a success, Mount Union FBLA members have been brainstorming different methods to collect food.

During the month of October, Mount Union FBLA has organized a "Business Trick-or-Treat". FBLA is teaming up with several local businesses, such as Community State Bank, The American Legion, Mount Union Firehall, Appleby's Drug Store, and Agia Insurance.

Each business will collect food items throughout the month of October then FBLA members will "trick-or-treat" for those items later in the month.

A second project currently in progress is a team up with the Mount Union Chamber of Commerce and the Juniata River Blueprint Community to collect food during their scarecrow contest. Community members can vote for their favorite scarecrow by donating food items as votes. This event will be taking place on Thursday October 30th during the Mount Union Halloween parade.

Future Business Leaders of America is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world, helping more than 230,000 middle school, high school, and college members each year prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs.

Competitive events. Members can qualify from the local chapter through regional and state conferences to the National Leadership Conference, competing in dozens of business-discipline events — written tests in areas like accounting, business law, and computer applications; presentation events like public speaking and graphic design; and role-play/case-study events that mirror real business problem-solving.

Leadership development. FBLA's own Business Achievement Awards program lets members build leadership skills, expand business knowledge, and earn national recognition as they advance through it, alongside chapter officer roles like the ones Mount Union's own members hold.

Conferences and networking. Beyond competition, national events such as the National Fall Leadership Conference (Washington, D.C., Nov. 5–7, 2026) and the National Leadership Conference put members in front of business professionals, workshops, and peers from across the country.

Scholarships. FBLA partners with colleges and organizations — including Johnson & Wales University and the National Technical Honor Society — that offer scholarships specifically to FBLA members, on top of chapter and state-level scholarship opportunities.

College and career prep. Membership signals initiative to college admissions officers and gives students real experience in leadership, public speaking, and business fundamentals before they ever set foot on a campus or in an office.
